1. MITZVAH DAY – SUN NOV 3 – UPDATE
Bottom Line Up Front: Paint the Gates Black is (for now) cancelled.
MoTAS had planned to paint the parking lot security gates and some of the surrounding fencing on the morning of Mitzvah Day. Unfortunately, your esteemed president did not consider that the entry and exit gates will be open, precluding their painting, and it would not be safe to paint the fencing in the driveway with all the Mitzvah Day traffic. Therefore, we are cancelling our Mitzvah Day plans but we will perform this much needed task on another date. So if you had hoped to help but were concerned for your life, I hope you have not already increased your life insurance in order to help us out.
Everyone is still welcome to show up at Mitzvah Day and find another effort where you can be of help.
2. NOVEMBER MEMBERSHIP MEETING – SUN NOV 10
Our next membership meeting will be November 10, 2019, at the usual time in the usual place (i.e., 8:45am in the northernmost rooms of the Activity Center). This may be our last meeting in the Activity Center. Our speaker (postponed from October) will be Alan Stepakoff, whose background was Information Technology Security at JPL. He will be speaking on the topic: “How to have fun on the Internet without getting hurt”. He will discuss what the risks are to living with the internet and email and how to mitigate them. Topics will include privacy and safety practices for network communications, e-mail, passwords, use of credit cards, home automation, and the need to backup important data and files.
As always, our meeting will start with our usual MoTAS breakfast, followed by a short business meeting and our speaker. Please bring a potential active member with you: this is the best way to introduce someone to all the great guys in our group.
3. AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL — POKER TOURNAMENT
We had an excellent turnout at last Sunday’s poker tournament, with around 75-80 players. Players indicated that they had a real good time, and there were no complaints. Here’s a picture of how full the social hall was with players:

A big thank you to the crew that helped cook the food (pictured below), plus the folks working registration, the 50/50 raffle, the raffle table, the silent auction, and everyone else who made the event a success.

4. UPDATE ON MEL JANUS
Mel Janus has moved out of Northridge, and now resides near his kids at Brookdale Senior Living in Irvine. He’s receiving thrice-weekly dialysis thru Kaiser in Irvine, and would welcome calls or visits from his many friends in the MoTAS family.
