1. LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP: OCTOBER POKER TOURNAMENT – SUN OCT 27
We’ll keep this short and simple. MoTAS’s 2nd Annual Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament is THIS SUNDAY. This is your last chance to sign up. This year’s winner will earn $1,000 and there will be cash prizes for everyone making the final table. Other opportunities to win big include our famous 50/50 cash drawing (final selection can win $1,000), a raffle and a silent auction. In addition, there will be $3,000 in total prizes to the players at the final table in addition to the cash prize for the high hand of the night. There will also be some great silent raffle prizes, including:
- Three sets of 4 Los Angeles Dodger tickets for 2020 season games, donated by Ron Friedman.
- Tickets for 2 to the April 4 2020 Los Angeles Kings game with the Dallas Stars, donated by Ken and Lynn Miles.
- Two sets of 4 tickets for admission to the Magic Castle in Hollywood, donated by Brad Glassman. Must be used by the end of the year.
- A certificate for two hours of home computer tech support, donated by Larry Pfefer.
How do you sign up? Easy. Just visit poker.tasnorthridge-motas.org and register and pay online. The event website also allows you to print flyers for the event, and to find the printable registration form you can print and give to your friends.
While we are always looking for more poker players, MoTAS also needs the support of those who do not intend to play to help us set-up, run our pre-tournament events, and help prepare and serve the dinner and drinks for our players. If you are not playing, let Howard Miller know at hmiller12@socal.rr.com or call him at (818) 993-0796 if you will be able to help out at the event from 3:30-6 and/or 5-7:30 on Sunday.
Please forward our invitation to all your poker playing friends so that we can make this event a rousing success. You can download a copy of the flyer from poker.tasnorthridge-motas.org . If you have any questions, call Howard Miller at (818) 993-0796.
2. MITZVAH DAY – SUN NOV 3 – UPDATE
Bottom Line Up Front: Paint the Gates Black is (for now) cancelled.
MoTAS had planned to paint the parking lot security gates and some of the surrounding fencing on the morning of Mitzvah Day. Unfortunately, your esteemed president did not consider that the entry and exit gates will be open, precluding their painting, and it would not be safe to paint the fencing in the driveway with all the Mitzvah Day traffic. Therefore, we are cancelling our Mitzvah Day plans but we will perform this much needed task on another date. So if you had hoped to help but were concerned for your life, I hope you have not already increased your life insurance in order to help us out.
Everyone is still welcome to show up at Mitzvah Day and find another effort where you can be of help.
3. NOVEMBER MEMBERSHIP MEETING – SUN NOV 10
Our next membership meeting will be November 10, 2019, at the usual time in the usual place (i.e., 8:45am in the northernmost rooms of the Activity Center). This may be our last meeting in the Activity Center. Our speaker (postponed from October) will be Alan Stepakoff, whose background was Information Technology Security at JPL. He will be speaking on the topic: “How to have fun on the Internet without getting hurt”. He will discuss what the risks are to living with the internet and email and how to mitigate them. Topics will include privacy and safety practices for network communications, e-mail, passwords, use of credit cards, home automation, and the need to backup important data and files.
As always, our meeting will start with our usual MoTAS breakfast, followed by a short business meeting and our speaker. Please bring a potential active member with you: this is the best way to introduce someone to all the great guys in our group.
