The Golf Tournament provides you with a full day on the links, including locker room usage, range balls, continental breakfast, a barbeque lunch on the course, and dinner of delicious hors d’oeuvres and carving station meats after your day of play. It includes golf-related contests, goody bags, some very nice prizes, and entertainment provided by “The Mulligan Man“. In addition, a raffle and a silent auction will be held during dinner to help support our charities. When and Where

The 26th Annual MoTAS Charity Golf Tournament will be held at the Calabasas Country Club in Calabasas, California on Monday, October 27, 2014. To get to the Calabasas Country Club from Los Angeles & Orange Counties:

1. Take the 405(N) to the 101(W) towards Ventura
2. Exit 101(W) at Parkway Calabasas
3. Make an immediate left at the first light, then another left over the freeway, continue straight past Park Granada
4. Turn right at Park Entrada, continue up the hill to entrance on the left

Tournament Schedule

• 8:30 AM Check In, Free Range Balls, Breakfast, and Putting Contest
• 10:30 AM Shotgun Start (BBQ Lunch on the course)
• 4:00 PM No Host Bar, Dinner, Auction, and Awards

Prizes and Contests

Course prizes include prizes for Longest Ball, Closest to the Pin, and Holes-in-One, including a special Hole-In-One prize of a new Mustang Convertable donated by Galpin Ford. Additional hole-in-one prizes include:

• A golf weekend including 2 rounds of golf

Special hole-in-one holes include:

• Rolex hole: 4 Rolex watches (one for each team member)
• Money hole: Using a 15 inch hole, a $1,000 prize will go to the winner.  If more than one hole-in-one, prize will be split.  If not hole in one, the player closest to the pin will win a prize (but not the $1,000 cash prize).

Additionally, magician Danny Magic,a member in good standing of the world famous Magic Castle and the recipient of the 2012 and 2014 Strolling Magician of the Year award, will be joining us at the tournament. Danny does incredible close‐up magic and will be entertaining golfers during the Registration period while they are in line, on the driving range and on the putting green. At the banquet after the tournament, Danny performs close‐up magic table‐to‐table and near the Silent Auction. Danny also performs a big trick during the banquet and then auctions off a DANNY MAGIC PACKAGE that consists of a pass for 8 to the Magic Castle where he will meet the party and show them around (alternatively, Danny will perform for a private party at the high bidder’s home or office). He even tosses in a bottle of Magic Wine.

Player Fees

Player fees for the Golf Tournament are $215 per player. On your application, you may request other players for your foursome. Your player fee covers the following:

• Use of all member facilities for the day including driving range, putting green, chipping and sand area and more
• Continental Breakfast
• Barbeque Lunch on the course
• On-course refreshments
• Dinner
• Golf Goodie Bag. Items in the goodie bag include a sleeve of golf balls (Top Flite), a golf glove, a ball marker with player’s initials, a golf shirt, a Golfsmith $10 discount card, a cooling bandana, a tape measure from Dean’s Safe Company, a bottle of water, and various snacks–nuts, granola bar, etc.

Additionally, while on the course, you can purchase a special Mulligan Man Package for $50 as well as tickets for the dinner raffle. Additional dinner tickets are $36.

Calendar/Ad Book Sponsorships

This year, in addition to the basic Golf Tournament Program, MoTAS will be producing a calendar and ad book. This book will be made available to MoTAS and temple members not only at the Golf Tournament, but at every Friday shabbat and MoTAS event. The book will contain the calendar of MoTAS events for the year, descriptions of each events, and links and information about community resources. This ad book encourages readeres to spend their dollars with those businesses that support MoTAS and TAS. Our membership consists mostly of long-term residents who shop locally, are concerned about local matters, and who want to support the businesses in their community. They are likely to keep the calendar/ad book handy for easy reference. By supporting your ad book, both your business and the community benefit.

Play Mah Jongg

Sisterhood will also be running Mah Jongg for those interested during the Golf Tournament, starting at noon. The proceeds from the Golf Tournament primarily support the Men of Temple Ahavat Shalom (MoTAS), and in turn, its support of the needs and priorities of the Temple Ahavat Shalom community. In the past, this has included support of the following Temple Ahavat Shalom Social Action Partners:

• SOVA – Food banks in Van Nuys and Los Angeles that provide free groceries and supportive services to needy families and individuals.
• M.E.N.D. (Meeting Each Need with Dignity) – Helps transform the lives of the area’s neediest residents with clothing, medical, vision, and dental care,job skills training, and job placement assistance.
• L.A. FAMILY HOUSING – The leading San Fernando Valley organization addressing homelessness and the affordable housing crisis, and providing emergency and  transitional shelter to individuals and families.
• JEWISH WORLD WATCH (JWW) – Works to mobilize synagogues, their schools, their members, and the community, to combat genocide and other egregious violations of human rights around the world through education, advocacy, and refugee relief.
• KNOCK FOUNDATION – The foundation is a grass-roots initiative to assist rural communities in the developing world, giving people the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty.
