1. COVID-19 CANCELLATIONS / KEEPING BROTHERHOOD ALIVE
By now, you should know about many of our COVID-19-related cancellations:
- Man of the Year Dinner
- Brotherhood Seder
- Sisterhood Seder
- NCAA Squares
There will likely be more as time goes on. We ask for your patience as we all sort this out.
What this public health crisis has not cancelled is our sense of brotherhood and community. We encourage you to pick up the strange archaic device in your home called a telephone, and phone a MoTAS member. If you have the technology, Facetime or Skype. If you have an ID you would like me to share in the next weekly, just mail it to me at faigin@cahighways.org, and I’ll include it. You can reach me, for example, on Skype as cahwyguy or under my cell phone number (note: there is also a “live:faigin” account that I don’t use). So share your information, and we can get together while maintaining social distance.
2. SUNDAY, APRIL 5: CANDLE PACKING / MEETING UPDATE
With the COVID-19 closures, our April 5 normal meeting is cancelled. Tentatively, we’re planning on getting a small group together (max: 10) to pack candles at a location to be announced, with suitable social distancing. If you would like to help, please sign up at https://volunteersignup.org/4JHBB . Signups are limited to 9 (as Howard will already be there).
As for the meeting itself: We are still exploring options. We make take advantage of our FreeConferenceCall account to do a virtual meeting (and test the technology), or we might try a teleconference. More information in the next weekly.
3. SUNDAY APRIL 19: MEN’S ONLY DISCUSSION GROUP
NOTE: This is tentative at this time, pending updates in the social isolation rules. This could occur with a limit of 10 total, or it could move to a teleconference or videochat.
Our Men’s Only Discussion groups provide a forum for discussing men’s issues in an environment where what is said in the room, stays in the room. It is your opportunity to discuss important topics with your peers. Dinner will be served at a cost of $12. RSVP to Bob Levine at tasboblevine@gmail.com. He will also be glad to answer any question you might have regarding the event.
4. ONGOING: OUR ANNUAL APPEAL FOR MOTAS AND TAS PRIDE
Our annual operating budget depends on the generous contributions of our temple members. We use the funds to run our organization, support the ECEC and Religious School, and the Temple. In combination with our other fundraising activities, we support the costs of Camperships, the Avodah Program, the free pancake breakfast, Confirmation L’Taken, and many more activities and benefits that are not part of the Temple budget. If you would like to help us, visit support.tasnorthridge-motas.org. Let’s show that 100% of our active members participate, even if it is just for $18.
