1. HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM MOTAS

This Sunday evening, the Jewish year 5776 begins. The leadership of the Men of Temple Ahavat Shalom would like to wish all the men of Temple Ahavat Shalom, their families, their loved ones, and everyone they care about the happiest and healthiest of new years. L’shanah tovah tikatevu. May you have a good year.

In the period between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, Jews prepare for upcoming Day of Atonement. Part of this preparation is making amends for any actions, inadvertant or intentional, over the past year. To that end:

If MoTAS, as represented by its leadership, has offended any of you, in any way, shape, manner, or form, real or imagined, then we apologize and beg forgiveness. If we have done anything to hurt, demean, or otherwise injure you, we apologize and beg forgiveness. If we have done or said over the past year that has upset, or otherwise bothered you, we sincerely apologize, and will do our best to ensure it won’t happen again.

If you have done something in the above categories, don’t worry. We know it wasn’t intentional, and we would accept any apology you would make.

From all of us at MoTAS, may you have the happiest of new years.

2. SEPTEMBER 20 SPEAKER MEETING – MENS HEALTH

Sunday, September 20th marks the start of our monthly speaker’s program. Join the Men of TAS at 8:45 AM in Activity Center 3/4 for a scrumptious breakfast typically consisting of bagels, lox, eggs, cookies, fruit, juice, and coffee/tea (donations appreciated). Our normal monthly meeting (d’var torah, introductions, and a review of upcoming activities), starts at 9:00 AM, followed by our speaker at 10:00 AM. This month, our topic is “Mens Health Issues”. As of press time, we are still awaiting the abstract and short bio from the speaker, Dr. Joshua Rokaw. The topic addresses health issue common to men, and of concern to men, as we progress through fatherhood into empty-nest-hood and the-kids-return-home-hood.

3. SEPTEMBER 27 SUKKAH BUILDING

If you tell a Jew it is Elul, they will start preparing for the High Holy Days. If a Jew is preparing for the High Holy Days, they will know that Sukkot is not far way. And, if you tell a Jew—especially a Man of TAS—that Sukkot is not far away, they will start readying their gloves, Allen wrenches, zip-ties, and other accoutrements of construction. Why? Because Sukkot means it is time to build a Sukkah. Start marking your calendar for the last Sunday in September, September 27th, at a special early time — 8:00 AM. That morning, we’ll gather together under the watchful eye (and voice) of our Sukkah Foreman, Robert Levin, to build our Sukkah. I find this one of the most fun activities of the MoTAS year—men working together to build something. Come join us for the fun.

Did you know that the Men of TAS has a store where you can purchase a variety of items with the MoTAS logo. From T-Shirts to Golf Shirts to Sweat Shirts, from Golf Balls to Wine Coolers, from Sports Bottles to Hats and Aprons. All are available at the MoTAS CafePress store. Just visit http://www.cafepress.com/motasshop.

5. GET FOOTBALL SQUARES BEFORE THEY ARE GONE!

Time is running out!!!!!!

Perhaps you didn’t see the other emails, or the listings in the TAS bulletins, with all the information about this year’s series. Our season begins next Monday, September 14th. We hoped you enjoyed participating in previous years (even if you weren’t a winner, you were supporting our Temple in the good work we do for our community and for each other), and that you will want to join us again.

FULL DETAILS, INSTRUCTIONS, AND SIGN-UP INFORMATION ARE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org.

There are about 10 spaces remaining. The game will close at 6pm Friday, September 11th, Your payment check must be received at the Temple office by Friday, or you must have handled it online by then. If not you will miss Game #1.*

Here’s a simple reminder of how it works: there’s a grid with 100 spaces on it. You can purchase one or two (with spouse) for $50 each (or additional for each adult child). You get the same place on the grid for all 16 games of the season. The numbers change every week, and winners for each quarter and final score (1,2,3,F) are winners. With a full grid, payouts are $25 each for the first, second, and third quarter matching score (last digit only, “17” = “7”), and $50 for final. As you are aware, you can win multiple times in a game, and throughout the season. With a full grid, total payout is $2000, leaving $3000 for MoTAS to donate back to TAS for special programming needs that the temple’s budget can’t cover.

At http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org, you can view the entire season schedule on the link. This page will be updated with winner information after each game, and past series show how this benefits TAS.

*If there are spaces, you will be able to have one for Game #2 if your $50/square payment is received by Friday, September 18. After that, the series closes for sign-ups.

6. GOLF TOURNAMENT — PLAY/SPONSOR/ADVERTISE

The main fundraiser for MoTAS is the Annual MoTAS Charity Golf Tournament. This tournament provides the funds that MoTAS uses to support TAS and TAS Social Action Partners. The 2015 Annual MoTAS Charity Golf Tournament will be Monday, October 19, 2015 at Calabasas Country Club.

There are many ways for you to participate and support MoTAS at all financial levels – you do not need to attend the tournament to support the tournament:

» Support the TAS Calendar/Golf Tournament Program.

You may have seen last year’s calendar in the Temple Foyer. This is a large handout that contains programmatic calendars from Temple committees and organizations for the entire programming year. It is a reference that can be used to promote the congregation as a single handout to show to new members. In the center is the program from the Golf Tournament itself. The calendar/program provides space for advertising and messages; MoTAS has specifically priced this space to allow anyone to participate.

$18 – Three Line Messages. At the personal level, you can purchase a three line message — whatever you want to say — for $18. Show your support for MoTAS. Show your support for TAS. Shout out to your friends and family — it’s up to you. Each message helps to support MoTAS.

$36 – Business Card Ads. You can also place business-size “In Memorium” messages to remember your loved ones, and for the same price you can submit business cards (personal or business) for publication in the book.

One goal MoTAS has it so draw in the community, and larger ads — from quarter page to full page — are a great way to do that. Get businesses you support to place ads to promote their business to the Temple. This costs you nothing, and helps MoTAS immensely. It also helps us build our relationship to the commumity. For a special flyer targeted to advertisers, including the signup form, visit https://copy.com/OUEIr73lVsjf1dbW/2015-advertiser-golf-flyer-2page.pdf

» Get Golf Tournament Sponsors

Moving up the price scale, there are a large number of sponsorship opportunies. Companies and individuals can sponsor the tournament, starting at $180 for a Tee sign and going up. This is a great way for a corporation or local business to show their support. Sponsorships at the Corporate level and above include player spots, and all include advertising in the TAS Calendar/Tournament Program. Information on the wide variety of sponsorships is available at http://golf.tasnorthridge-motas.org. For a special flyer targeted to Golf Tournament sponsors, visit https://copy.com/MdFJkOn9QCnBjLR9/2015-sponsor-golf-flyer-2page.pdf

» Donate to the Raffle/Silent Auction

A key element of the Golf Tournament is our raffle and auction, and you can help by getting local businesses that you frequent to donate certificates and items for our auction table. This can be a major source of revenue for the tournament. All donors will be listed on the Golf Tournament page for the year, and in the Golf Tournament program. Visit https://copy.com/8RxhIE69b6HTuFzx/golf2015.donation-form.pdf for a printable donation form.

» Come Out and Play

Then again, you may actually play golf — or have friends or business associates who play golf. We encourage you to come out an play at the tournament onf Monday, October 19, 2015 at Calabasas Country Club. The entry fee is $215 per player, and that includes a full day on the course as well as a continental breakfast, full lunch, and full dinner buffet, together with after dinner entertainment. Compared to similar events, this is such a bargain! For a special flyer targeted to players, visit https://copy.com/TXTHkph2W6J9bE3y/2015-golfer-golf-flyer-2page.pdf
