August Family Concert in the Park

Valley Cultural Center LogoFor our August meeting slot on Sunday, August 10, we’re continuing with our summer theme of building relationships. This time, we’re inviting the men of Temple Ahavat Shalom and their families to join us at the Valley Cultural Center in Woodland Hills for their Sunday Afternoon concert series. Bring a blanket, a picnic dinner, and park accoutrements (frisbees, travel games) and come and spend a summer evening listening to the music of Queen Nation, a tribute band that pays homage to the golden age of vintage Queen concerts.

The VCC concert is free. We’ll be aiming to meet around 4:30 PM; the concert starts at 6 PM and ends at 8 PM. We will attempt to have some sort of MoTAS banner or sign so you can find us. We will attempt to be near the trees.

Concerts on the Green are held at the Lou Bredlow Pavilion in Warner Park at 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., in Woodland Hills. There is plenty of room for a late afternoon picnic with the family while being entertained by headline performers. Parking for Concerts on the Green is available in the parking structure directly behind the stage on Califa Street for $10. Additional parking is available on Owensmouth Avenue in either parking structure between Califa and Oxnard. (see map). Signs are clearly posted.

Carpooling is encouraged; those who wish to carpool should contact Daniel Faigin (a dedicated vanpooler) and he’ll coordinate the pools.

Two Simple Goals

motas-logo-200If you are a man, and you are a member of Temple Ahavat Shalom, you’re part of the Men of TAS. It’s as simple as that. As MoTAS, we have two simple goals. First, we want to welcome you and build a relationship with you, which will strengthen your connection to the congregation and other members. Second, we want to be a role model for the rest of the congregation in everything we do. Your father (hopefully) sets the standards for you on how to live an exemplary life. We want to be that exemplar for TAS: we want to lead in relationship building, community building, and being there when we are needed. To do this, we need you to be with us.

Come and get to know us. Here are some ways you build a relationship with us:

September will be our traditional schedule — speaker meetings, and special activities such as the construction of the Sukkah. But why wait until fall. Get to know your new officers, come to an event, support our fundraising activities. But most importantly: say hello! We’re here for you, and we want to get to know you better.

July Potluck and Gaming Hang-Out

PotluckWhat’s a Second Sunday without a MoTAS Get-Together. However, it’s summer and religious school is out — so let’s party! The men of TAS (well, as many as can fit) are invited to the new President’s house in Northridge on Sunday, July 13 for an afternoon/evening of socializing, chatting, and perhaps some board gaming… of all varieties. This is an informal event — come anytime during the window of 2pm to 9pm. The price of admission? Bring something to eat or drink to share. Daniel will provide coffee and tea, both regular and iced, plus a big pot of chili.* We do have a swimming pool, although (you’ve been warned) it tends to shed fiberglass.

So come, have a good time, and discover the men of TAS. RSVPs are required so we can coordinate the food and the space:

If you indicate you are attending, we will contact you to provide you with the address, and to find out what you will be bringing and approximately when in the event window you will arrive.

*: Translation — Daniel’s not a beer drinker, so if you want beer, you’ll need to bring it
