From the Editor: The goal of the Weekly is to get MoTAS members the information they need on upcoming activities, and then get out of the way. If you have any information on MoTAS activities you need to get out to the membership, please contact the Weekly Editor at cybermaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org.
1. THANK YOUS – SUKKAH BUILDING – PANCAKE BREAKFAST
A lot of thank yous are in order for all the work MoTAS did over the last week.
Thank you to our sukkah construction team: Bernie Singer, Scott Gore, Bob Levine, Jeff Neiman, Joe Sculler, Alan Stepakoff, Roger Lowe, Joel Lowell, Howard Miller, Les Birken, Larry Hoffman, Larry Pfefer, and the fellow between Larry and Scott who’s name we’re completely blanking on. Thanks to Daniel Faigin for coordinating the Palm Fronds. We had just enough fronds (you can never have enough fronds). Next year we will go back to building the sukkah on Sunday morning. We need to adjust some of the hardware to accommodate having the larger opening for the entrance. Additional wall panels would be nice.
Thanks to our Pancake Breakfast team: Barry Mann, Daniel Faigin, Alia Yollis, Scott Yollis, Bill Shapiro, Alan Stepakoff, Ben and Cynthia Tenn, and Larry Hoffman. Scott Y. and Bill make the best pancakes. Looks like we served around 50 people.

2. OCTOBER MEMBERSHIP MEETING – SUN OCT 8 – SAVING MONEY ON YOUR CABLE BILL
Our next monthly MoTAS meeting is Sunday, October 8. Specific location to be given once we know it, but the time will be our usual time: 8:45am for Breakfast, with the meeting starting at 9:00am (sorry that was omitted for the last meeting, but it hasn’t changed in years). Join us for our traditional MoTAS breakfast and our planning for our October activities.
With this meeting, we are returning to an old tradition: speakers. Our speaker this Sunday will be Coby Yollis on saving money on cable bills. Coby Yollis, son of MoTAS Vice President Scott Yollis, will be sharing information on how to save money on cable bills. Coby has worked for both Spectrum and AT&T, and knows every trick in the trade. If there is a way to get a better deal from your current company or a much better deal at another company, Coby knows how, including every possible discount you might qualify for to lower your bill. Real life examples will be quite helpful; we encourage you to bring your existing cable bills so Coby can compare what is being billed to the current market, what they might want to do if they wanted to save money.
This meeting is open to everyone who wants to save money on their cable bills. Meeting is at 8:45 AM. Presentation will begin at 9:00 AM. Short business meeting after the presentation.
Looking forward to our November 5th meeting: Our speaker will be George Bancroft, who will talk about trains.
3. COASTAL CLEAN UP – SUN OCT 15
MoTAS has been invited to partner with TASTY for a Coastal Cleanup on October 15th. This is a program with Heal The Bay. It starts with a ‘Beach Talk’ discussing pollution, then there’s a team building activity, followed by the beach cleanup. More information once we have it.
4. FALL POKER TOURNAMENT – SUN OCT 22
Our Fall Poker Tournament is Sunday, October 22, and should operate similar to the Spring tournament. The sign up forms and on-line signup is available at the expected place: https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/poker/.
5. DINING OUT – PRESTO PASTA – TUE OCT 24
“Dining Does Good” has returned. Things have gotten more complicated since the pandemic with all the delivery apps and such, so this is DINE IN or PICK UP only. Let’s support MoTAS, and all show our smiling faces at Presto Pasta in Granada Hills on Tuesday, October 24.
Would you like an easy way to help MoTAS financially? How about taking your family to dinner. The MoTAS “Dining Does Good” allows you to go out to dinner, and have the restaurant donate a portion of your check support the Men of TAS. Our June Dining Does Good” will be Tuesday, October 24 at Presto Pasta, 17923 Chatsworth St.,Granada Hills, CA 91344 (818) 360-7737, granadahills@prestopasta.com. You can find a flyer for the event at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/dining/ or download it directly from our Box account . We really encourage you to come and support these events: we raise a little extra funds for our work, but more importantly, we come together and break bread as a Temple family on a regular basis. It is a real joy to walk into a neighborhood restaurant and see your Temple friends, to sit down and share a table and talk. This is the heart and goal of MoTAS: Building Relationships.
