From the Editor: The goal of the Weekly is to get MoTAS members the information they need on upcoming activities, and then get out of the way. If you have any information on MoTAS activities you need to get out to the membership, please contact the Weekly Editor at cybermaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org.
1. VETERANS DAY SHABBAT
Again this year, Temple Ahavat Shalom together with MoTAS, is planning a shabbat service to coincide with Veterans Day, which this year will be on November 11, to honor our temple veterans. Chaired by Roger Lowe, Hal Bass and Bob Levine the evening service will recognize all temple veterans who have given service to our country. If you are a current TAS member (or immediate family) and a veteran or on active duty from any branch of our armed forces, we want to acknowledge and honor you.
If you are comfortable with being recognized PLEASE follow the link here https://forms.gle/ywhaRgpVNjRqaiky8 and provide us your information.
We would appreciate knowing your highest rank, branch of service, years served, and whether you plan to attend services Nov 11. TAS & MoTAS look forward to honoring our veterans.
2. CHANUKAH BOUTIQUE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The annual Sisterhood Holiday Boutique is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, November 20 from 10am to 3pm. Typically, the Men of TAS helps with the food service. The current plan is that we will be picking up individually wrapped sandwiches and condiments, and providing bagged chips, canned or bottled drinks. We will need people to help pickup (and possibly pre-package) the food. We will need folks to sell and deliver the food. We will need folks to help clean up. If you will be able to help us at this event, you can sign up at https://volunteersignup.org/CBBM3.
3. DINING OUT RETURNS – CHI’S CHINESE MON 11/7
After a long hiatus, “Dining Does Good” returns. Things have gotten more complicated since the pandemic with all the delivery apps and such, so this is DINE IN only. We are currently seeing if it is possible to use the flyer for in-person pickup, but that might not work due to app fees. More next week on that, but for now, let’s all show our smiling faces at Chi’s on Monday, November 7.
Would you like an easy way to help MoTAS financially? How about taking your family to dinner. The MoTAS “Dining Does Good” allows you to go out to dinner, and have the restaurant donate a portion of your check support the Men of TAS. Our February Dining Does Good” will be Monday, November 7 at Chi’s Chinese at 9635 Reseda Blvd, Northridge, CA 91324, (818) 886-6928. You can find a flyer for the event at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/dining/ or download it directly from our Box account at https://app.box.com/s/y917ppvp4ucuiyt1lar1jil15rad2w3e.
We really encourage you to come and support these events: we raise a little extra funds for our work, but more importantly, we come together and break bread as a Temple family on a regular basis. It is a real joy to walk into a neighborhood restaurant and see your Temple friends, to sit down and share a table and talk. This is the heart and goal of MoTAS: Building Relationships.
4. WANT TO CHAMPION AN ACTIVITY?
The MoTAS Board met in early August and discussed a bunch of fun activities, including tossing around a number ideas for new activities. We aim to shake off the stodgy image of MoTAS, and come up with events that will appeal to many potential members. To do that, however, we need volunteers to coordinate activities. If you would like to step up to the plate and help us, drop a note to Larry (president@tasnorthridge-motas.org).
5. ZOOM MASTERS NEEDED
TAS is in need of a Zoom-Master or multiple Zoom-Masters to manage the broadcast of our Friday Shabbat services. WE WILL TRAIN YOU. Easy to learn, easy to manage, and you are here for services anyway. We would like to have at least 4 volunteers on a rotating basis with a commitment to one Friday a month or less. Call or email Larry Pfeffer and tell him of your interest: motas@TASNorthridge.org or 818.366.2334.
6. MOTAS POKER TOURNAMENT
SAVE THE DATE – WE’RE BACK! – MoTAS’ Annual Poker Tournament 2023 is scheduled for February 19, 2023. Open to all, we are planning for a great, fun filled evening. GREAT Prizes – Raffles – 50/50 and Highest Hand of the Night. Space will be limited – Online Registration opens mid-December.
