1. FOOTBALL SQUARES SALES CLOSE SOON
Summer is Football Squares season! It’s an easy way to support TAS and possibly win a little back. $50 gets you a random square on the board, where randomized rows and columns have the digits 0 through 9. During Monday Night Football season, match the last digit of the home and away team scores in a quarter and win! More information, complete rules, online signup, and signup forms are available at http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org, or contact Bob Levine (818-271-1282, tasboblevine@gmail.com) or Kathy Pullman (gridmaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org). Forms will soon be available in the Temple Foyer. Funds raised by the Sports Squares programs are used to fund specific needs that are often unfunded, and expenditures are distinct from MoTAS’ general fund contributions. Registration closes at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 6.
As you recall, the net proceeds for the Football Squares goes to support TAS projects that cannot be funded, either adequately, or at all, by current temple budgeting. It is your support that makes these things happen. As a result of your participation and support, the temple has had a major overhaul to the kitchen, and we have been able to offer more campership funds to allow our youth to go to Jewish camp in the summer.

2. SEPTEMBER MOTAS MEETING – SUN SEP 8
At our Sunday, September 8 meeting, Larry Pfefer, our Vice President and the TAS Facilities chairperson, will be making a short presentation on the temple’s short-term and long-term plans for repairs, improvements and upgrades to our campus, the potential for a significant upgrade of our campus broadband capabilities, and the plan for a potential lessor of some of our property (if plans are finalized before the meeting). He and Howard Miller will also talk about the temple’s current plans for the FEMA/Cal Office of Emergency Services security grant and proposed plans for the next grant should it be awarded to TAS.
As always, we invite you to join us for breakfast at 8:45am. This will be followed by a short business meeting where we go over upcoming events, followed by our speakers. It is always a fun morning.
3. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A MENS HANGOUT?
We are exploring bringing back the Men’s Hangouts that we used to hold. To do that, we need two things: hosts and attendees. For those that don’t remember the Men’s Hangouts, they are usually held on a Sunday evening, and provide a space for men to talk about men’s issues in an open environment of other men. What is said in the room stays in the room. The event can include dinner (or not), and refreshments (or not).

4. OCTOBER POKER TOURNAMENT – OCT 27 – REGISTRATION OPEN
MoTAS is organizing our 2nd Annual Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament on Sunday October 27. We hope to have 120 players, so please plan on coming and ask all of your poker playing friends to participate. Anyone, male or female, who likes poker will have a great time. We also have opportunities for sponsorship recognition, so please help us find sponsors. If you don’t play, we need a few guys to help with our registration desk and to serve food and drinks. We are also looking for raffle and auction items that help us make additional money. So, even if you don’t play, we can use your help in making this event a success. We are all proud of what the Men of TAS does with our financially supported projects, so please find a way to help us execute this fundraising effort.
POTENTIAL PLAYERS: You are invited to participate in the 2019 Men of TAS Texas Hold-em Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Sunday October 27 at Temple Ahavat Shalom. This year’s winner will earn $1,000 and there will be cash prizes for everyone making the final table. Other opportunities to win big include our famous 50/50 cash drawing (final selection can win $1,000), a raffle and a silent auction. In addition, there will be $3,000 in total prizes to the players at the final table in addition to the cash prize for the high hand of the night.
Your $85 entry fee entitles you to a players seat, a lite dinner, a drink and five raffle tickets.
- $100 bonus chip for new player registered by a returning player. This will put you 10% ahead of other players when you hear “Shuffle up and deal!”
Feel free to print and fill out the registration form and mail your check payable to Men of TAS (or your credit card information) to Howard Miller at 9656 Geyser Ave, Northridge CA 91324. The event website also allows you to print flyers for the event, and to find the printable registration form you can print and give to your friends.
Various sponsorship opportunities are available on the registration form for those who want to help the Men of TAS fund important activities in support of their temple and local community. Other contributions may include future local sports tickets (Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, Rams, Chargers, Galaxy, LAFC, UCLA, USC, etc.) and upcoming entertainment (tickets to local concerts or plays) that can be used for auction items or raffle prizes.
