1. RSVP NOW – TU B’SHEVAT COMMUNITY SEDER / JANUARY MEETING – SUN JAN 13
THIS SUNDAY, January 13, 2019, MoTAS will be facilitating a Tu B’Shevat Seder for the congregation, in conjuncdtion with the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades of the religious school. Parents are invited. This is a great way for the Men of TAS to interact with the families of the religious school. The schedule for the day is as follows:
- ~8:15am: Start setting up for the Tu B’Shevat Seder
- 8:45am: Brief MoTAS Breakfast and Business Meeting
- 9:30am – 10:45am: Tu B’Shevat Seder
- 10:45am – 11:30am: Discussion with parents and adults (pie and coffee)
WE NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY ADULTS WILL BE THERE. We have set up an eventbee signup for RSVPs; please RSVP by Friday, January 11. For more information about the event, or to see the liturgy, visit the online page at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/tu-bshevat-seder/ .
2. MOTAS SHABBAT – THIS FRI JAN 11
This Friday evening is our annual MoTAS Shabbat service at which we run the service (thanks to Bob Levine for organizing the service) and recognize our 2019 Man of the Year. We would be honored for all men of the congregation to attend to show our strength and support all the participants. Services start at 7:30 PM.
3. JANUARY DINING OUT AT WEILERS – TUE JAN 15
Would you like an easy way to help MoTAS financially? How about taking your family to dinner. The MoTAS “Dining Does Good” allows you to go out to dinner, and have the restaurant donate a portion of your check support the Men of TAS. Our November Dining Does Good” will be Tuesday, January 15, at Weiler’s Deli in Northridge. You can find a flyer for the event at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/dining/.
We really encourage you to come and support these events: we raise a little extra funds for our work, but more importantly, we come together and break bread as a Temple family on a regular basis. It is a real joy to walk into a neighborhood restaurant and see your Temple friends, to sit down and share a table and talk. This is the heart and goal of MoTAS: Building Relationships.
4. TAS SOFTBALL TEAM NEEDS PLAYERS
With 2019 approaching quickly, MoTAS is trying to grow the TAS presence in the Synagogue Softball league. The teams that include TAS representation could use a few more players to stabilize the teams. TAS is represented on two teams in the league. The league plays “modified fast pitch” softball on Sundays from late January into June. Game times are 8:30am, 10:30am, and 12:30pm. Please contact Joe Blachman at tas2softball@gmail.com for more information about the teams and the league.
Our teams are open to ALL member families, as well as ALL genders. Must be over 18 years old to participate.
5. SUPERBOWL SQUARES OPEN FOR REGISTRATION
The regular football season is nearly over, and now is the time to buy a Superbowl Square. The cost is only $25 per square, and you can help Temple Ahavat Shalom while potentially rewarding yourself. The deadline is rapidly approaching — sales close on Tuesday, January 29 — and the board is filling up. The price has been raised slightly to account for eliminating some biased squares, but the payout has also been raised: $230 for each quarter, and $460 for the final score. A full board of 91 squares pays out $1150 to players, and $1125 to MoTAS. You can find the rules of the game, register and pay online, or find a form that you can print and mail in, at http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org/.
