1. A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Hello Men of TAS,
It is my pleasure to serve MoTAS and the congregation as president of our fine service group. We have many many men who stand up to help our Temple and look forward to each other’s company while doing that. I’d like to thank Frank Soronow for two years of great leadership. His enthusiasm for the group and the temple is well appreciated. I hope to hear from you about the kinds of things you’d like to do in the next two years. We are looking for fresh ideas and activities that are meaningful to you. Please feel free to email me at president@tasnorthridge-motas.org or call me at 818-993-0796 if there’s anything you’d like to discuss that pertains to the Men of TAS. I look forward to seeing you in the future and hearing your ideas.

2. AUGUST SHABBABAQUE – FRI AUG 17 ** VOLUNTEERS NEEDED **
Our second Shabbat Bar-B-Que (Shabbabaque) of the summer is rapidly approach — it is on Friday, August 17th. Signups are now open!
We also need volunteers as some of our regulars will be unavilable! Please make plans to help MoTAS make this event successful by planning on helping us prepare food (around 3pm), set up (around 6pm), serving (about 7:30) and/or clean-up (we need a couple more guys than last time please, we will be out around 9). Please let us know specifically if you can help prepare food as we need at least six guys or whether you will be there to help set up and clean-up. Please reply to both Larry Pfefer and myself (vp-larry@tasnorthridge-motas.org and president@tasnorthridge-motas.org, or sign up at the RSVP below) so we can plan. Also, we need a couple of guys to help purchase food and other items at Costco and Smart and Final on Wednesday of that week. Use of a van or truck for that purpose would also be helpful. Again, please let Larry and me know of your availability. Anyone doing this must be able to pick up cases of water/soda. Thanks in advance for your help. Your fellow congregants appreciate it also. Shabbabaque starts with an outdoor service in the TAS amphitheatre at 6:15pm, featuring music from our rockin’ TAS House Band. This is followed at 7:15pm by a delicious barbeque dinner. Meat items will include turkey burgers, beef burgers, and hot dogs. Vegetarian items will include vegetarian patties, broccoli roasted with garlic, and baked potatoes. Afterwards, there will be a wonderful Sisterhood oneg. The full menu is on the Shabbabaque event page. Our goal is for everyone to be happy. - Cost: $11 Adults / $7 Children (+$5 for registrations after Weds., 8/15 at 6PM). For religious school, ECEC, and ITC families, the family comes free with one adult registration.

Reservation for this event by August 15th is strongly encouraged; an extremely-limited number of late-registration tickets are available at the door.
3. FOOTBALL SQUARES ** BOARD FILLING RAPIDLY – GET YOURS NOW **
Update from the Grid Masters on 8/31/2018: The players are now in training camps, so the opening game is not far away. There are only a few places left on our 2018 Sports Squares board, so this is a reminder to reserve your spot before they’re all gone. Your participation in the past has always been so appreciated, and MoTAS hopes you will continue your generosity. You can order online at http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org or send in your check ($50 per square) payable to MoTAS. Mark the envelope “MoTAS football squares” so it’s routed to us directly.
Summer is Football Squares season! It’s an easy way to support TAS and possibly win a little back. $50 gets you a random square on the board, where randomized rows and columns have the digits 0 through 9. During Monday Night Football season, match the last digit of the home and away team scores in a quarter and win! More information, complete rules, online signup, and signup forms are available at http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org, or contact Bob Levine (818-271-1282, tasboblevine@gmail.com) or Kathy Pullman (gridmaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org). Forms will soon be available in the Temple Foyer. Funds raised by the Sports Squares programs are used to fund specific needs that are often unfunded, and expenditures are distinct from MoTAS’ general fund contributions. Registration closes at 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 8.
As you recall, the net proceeds for the Football Squares goes to support TAS projects that cannot be funded, either adequately, or at all, by current temple budgeting. It is your support that makes these things happen. As a result of your participation and support, the temple has had a major overhaul to the kitchen, and we have been able to offer more campership funds to allow our youth to go to Jewish camp in the summer.

4. TEMPLE AHAVAT SHALOM TEXAS HOLD-EM CHARITY POKER TOURNAMENT – SUN OCT 21
You are invited to participate in the 2018 Men of TAS (Temple Ahavat Shalom) and Men of Temple Ramat Zion Texas Hold-em Charity Poker Tournament to be held on Sunday October 21 at Temple Ahavat Shalom. This year’s winner will earn $1,000 and there will be cash prizes for everyone making the final table. Other opportunities to win big include our famous 50/50 cash drawing (final selection can win $1,000), a raffle and a silent auction.
Your $80 entry fee entitles you to a players seat, a lite dinner, a drink and five raffle tickets. Feel free to print and fill out the registration form and mail your check payable to Men of TAS (or your credit card information) to Howard Miller at 9656 Geyser Ave, Northridge CA 91324. This year we are holding our tournament along with the Men of Temple Ramat Zion. Also, a portion of the Men of TAS proceeds will benefit the TAS Early Childhood Education Center. Various sponsorship opportunities are available on the registration form for those who want to help the Men of TAS and the Men of Temple Ramat Zion fund important activities in support of their temple and local community. Other contributions may include future local sports tickets (Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, Rams, Chargers, Galaxy, LAFC, UCLA, USC, etc.) and upcoming entertainment (tickets to local concerts or plays) that can be used for auction items or raffle prizes.
