1. FOOTBALL SQUARES ON SALE NOW

Summer is Football Squares season! It’s an easy way to support TAS and possibly win a little back. $50 gets you a random square on the board, where randomized rows and columns have the digits 0 through 9. During Monday Night Football season, match the last digit of the home and away team scores in a quarter and win! More information, complete rules, online signup, and signup forms are available at http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org, or contact Bob Levine (818-271-1282, tasboblevine@gmail.com) or Kathy Pullman (gridmaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org). Forms will soon be available in the Temple Foyer. Funds raised by the Sports Squares programs are used to fund specific needs that are often unfunded, and expenditures are distinct from MoTAS’ general fund contributions. Registration closes at 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 8.

As you recall, the net proceeds for the Football Squares goes to support TAS projects that cannot be funded, either adequately, or at all, by current temple budgeting. It is your support that makes these things happen. As a result of your participation and support, the temple has had a major overhaul to the kitchen, and we have been able to offer more campership funds to allow our youth to go to Jewish camp in the summer.

Please support us this year, as you have in the past. All the information about the game, as well as sign-up instructions, are available at our website:

http://squares.tasnorthridge-motas.org

We hope you can see your way to be part of our team this season. You might win some money, but the temple is the big winner. A warm thank-you from the Men of TAS.

2. SUMMER PLANNING

At our June meeting we discussed ways to get more men involved with the Men of TAS, especially the younger men with dads. We have two potential opportunities during the summer, as we don’t use our Second Sunday slots for meetings. A number of ideas were discussed, from a family picnic, to temple work days, to family outings. All we need is someone to champion and lead the activity. If you would be interesting in helping to run such an activity, contact your humble Weekly editor, faigin@cahighways.org, and I’ll get the information to the correct MoTAS Officer.

3. POKER TOURNAMENT

Planning is starting for the joint Men of Temple Ahavat Shalom (MoTAS) / Men of Temple Ramat Zion Texas Hold ‘Em Charity Poker Tournament on Sunday, October 21. We’ve set up a preliminary planning page so you can sign up for more information on the event; we’re also exploring a parallel boardgaming event (if there is sufficient interest) for those under 18, or those that don’t play poker. Learn more and RSVP at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/poker/.

If you would like to help Howard run the event, please contact him at hmiller12@socal.rr.com.

4. THANK YOU TO OUR OUTGOING BOARD

As this is the last MoTAS Weekly of the 2017-2018 MoTAS year, we thank our outgoing officers — Frank Soronow and Bill Shapiro — for their hard work over the last two year. We both thank and welcome those officers who are continuing: Howard Miller (who is moving up to President), Hal Bass, and Roger Lowe. We also welcome our new Vice Presidents, Larry Pfefer and Russ Rapoport.

A big thank you to all who have made MoTAS events successful over the year: our breakfast crew, our Shabbabaque volunteers, our Sports Squares team, the Golf Tournament team, and them teams planning and running all that we do. You are the folks that make us successful.
