From the Editor: The goal of the Weekly is to get MoTAS members the information they need on upcoming activities, and then get out of the way. If you have any information on MoTAS activities you need to get out to the membership, please contact the Weekly Editor at cybermaven@tasnorthridge-motas.org.
1. UPCOMING MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS
Here is the schedule for our membership meetings for the remainder of the year:
- Sunday, April 14, 2024 @ 8:45am at Temple Ahavat Shalom. Preparation of Yom HaShoah candles for mailing. Announcement of candidates for office.
- Sunday, May 19, 2024 @ 8:45am at Temple Ahavat Shalom. Alyce Botwinick on transitioning to retirement and dealing with chronic illness in oneself or family members. Elections.
- Sunday, June 2, 2024 @ 8:45am VIA ZOOM. Erin Faigin on Valley Girls, or to be more precise, “Postwar Jewish Suburbanization through the Lens of the Jewish American Princess and Valley Girl.” This is an update to a presentation given to the American Jewish Archives in Cincinnati in March 2023.
For our on-site meetings, a full breakfast, including bagels, lox, and eggs, will be available. For ZOOM, we’ll have virtual bagels, lox and eggs, which are much lower in calories.
2. MOTAS/MOTBH BROTHERHOOD SEDER – SU 4/14
On Sunday, April 14 at 5pm, you are invited to join the Men of Temple Beth Hillel and the Men of Temple Ahavat Shalom as we come together for a special joint Men’s Seder. This special service and dinner, modeled after the traditional Passover Seder, provides a comfortable and ‘safe’ space for the men of TAS to explore and celebrate what it means to be a contemporary Jewish man. This year we will be using an adapted version of the new MRJ Men’s Haggadah that was published during the pandemic. The event will at Temple Beth Hillel in the Social Hall on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Temple Beth Hillel is located at 12326 Riverside Dr, Valley Village, CA 91607.
The menu will consist of traditional Passover foods as well as the following Passover dinner (menu subject to change):
- Gefilte Fish, Lettuce, and Tomatoes, served with red and white horseradish
- Apricot Glaze Roast Chicken
- Basmati Rice
- Matzah and Margarine
- Passover Honey Cake, Sponge Cake, and Macaroons
- Mélange of fresh sliced fruit
- Citrus punch and ice water
- Kosher wine and grape juice
The cost of the meal is $40. You can pay at the door* or online, but must reserve your space through our Ticketleap Event Page. Reservations are due by Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 6PM (note: this date is subject to change as we finalize arrangements)
Please invite your brothers, fathers, uncles and friends to join you. TAS or TBH affiliation is NOT required for this event.
