1. MOTAS SHABBAT – FRI JAN 11

MoTAS Shabbat – Friday, January 11, 2019. Once a year TAS celebrates the contributions of MoTAS at the MoTAS Shabbat. This is a special Shabbat service that is primarily led by the members of MoTAS and open to the entire congregation. If you are a male member of TAS and would like to participate in the service, please contact Bob Levine, at tasboblevine@gmail.com. Please let him know if you want to read Hebrew. You can also RSVP online at https://motascybermaven.eventbee.com/event?eid=103379965; use a middle initial of “H” if you want to read Hebrew. You can also call Daniel at (818) 438-5781 and the message will get to Bob. Participants meet early at 6:45 PM; the service starts at 7:30 PM.

2. JANUARY MEETING / TU B’SHEVAT COMMUNITY SEDER (MOTAS HOSTED) – SUN JAN 13

Tu B’Shevat Seder – Sunday, January 13, 2019. For the 2nd year, MoTAS will be facilitating a Tu B’Shevat Seder for the congregation. This time, we’re doing it in conjunction with the religious school for the older kids. This is a great way for the Men of TAS to interact with the families of the religious school (we’ll be doing a little something for the parents after the service before they get back together with their kids). We’ll need folks to help setup as well as participate in the event.

The current plan is to have a **short** business meeting, followed by setting up for the seder. The date is the 2nd Sunday of the month, so this event will replace our normal Sunday morning meeting for the month. The overall time will be our usual meeting time: 845am (possibly a little earlier) until the end of religious school.

We have updated the online page at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/tu-bshevat-seder/, and an eventbee signup is now available so that we know how many adults will be there. Parents from the religious school will be bringing supplies; we’re also going to go out and purchase additional supplies to cover the adults that may be attending.

3. JANUARY DINING OUT AT WEILERS – TUE JAN 15

Would you like an easy way to help MoTAS financially? How about taking your family to dinner. The MoTAS “Dining Does Good” allows you to go out to dinner, and have the restaurant donate a portion of your check support the Men of TAS. Our November Dining Does Good” will be Tuesday, January 15, at Weiler’s Deli in Northridge. You can find a flyer for the event at https://wp.tasnorthridge-motas.org/activities/dining/.

We really encourage you to come and support these events: we raise a little extra funds for our work, but more importantly, we come together and break bread as a Temple family on a regular basis. It is a real joy to walk into a neighborhood restaurant and see your Temple friends, to sit down and share a table and talk. This is the heart and goal of MoTAS: Building Relationships.

4. TAS SOFTBALL TEAM NEEDS PLAYERS

With 2019 approaching quickly, MoTAS is trying to grow the TAS presence in the Synagogue Softball league. The teams that include TAS representation could use a few more players to stabilize the teams. TAS is represented on two teams in the league. The league plays “modified fast pitch” softball on Sundays from late January into June. Game times are 8:30am, 10:30am, and 12:30pm. Please contact Joe Blachman at tas2softball@gmail.com for more information about the teams and the league.

Our teams are open to ALL member families, as well as ALL genders. Must be over 18 years old to participate.

5. MORE THANK YOUS RECEIVED FOR MOTAS DONATIONS

The following emails were received in response to MoTAS helping to sponsor the Religious School Teacher’s Brunch:

Dear Sisterhood and MoTAS,

On behalf of the teachers and myself I would like to thank you for sponsoring our Religious School teacher’s brunch on December 9th. We enjoyed having a chance to celebrate Hanukkah and remind our teachers how appreciated they are by our parents, students, and community. Below are a couple extra thank yous I received from the teachers who attended.

L’Shalom, Rabbi Dalia

Dear MoTAS and Sisterhood,

Thank you so very much for treating the teachers to a delicious lunch and desserts. It was great to spend time together with my colleagues in such a beautiful setting. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness!

Ms. Kovar (7th Grade Judaica and Hebrew)

Dear Sisterhood and MoTAS,

Thank you very much for the beautiful lunch! The table looked amazing and the food was delicious! It has been a joy to come to work on Sundays. Also thank you for all your hard work, your time, and your support, it is very much appreciated!!!

Love, Danielle Halpern (K/1 Judaica and 4th Grade Hebrew)

Dear Sisterhood and MoTAS,

I would like to thank each one of you for the very generous brunch on Hanukkah! It was so thoughtful! Our best presents are the students we get to teach each and every day in school. We are so fortunate to have such a special and loving community. You make our community so warm and welcome! It is such an honor to teach at Temple Ahavat Shalom, especially when you see the students continue passing on our wonderful Jewish values and language. With much appreciation,

Fanny Koyman (5th Grade Judaica and Hebrew)
